What is PHP?

PHP, which stands for "PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor" is a widely-used Open Source general-purpose scripting language that is especially well suited for Web development and can be embedded into HTML code. Its syntax draws upon C, Java, and Perl, and is considered easy to learn. The main goal of the language is to allow web developers to write dynamically generated webpages quickly, but you can do much more with PHP.  In recent years PHP has become the foundation for many popular web applications such as content management systems and blogging software.  PHP is also widely used for integration with the open source database system, MySQL.
