What are some good books for both beginner and advanced web designers?


Web Design Tools and Techniques, 2nd edition, by Peter Kentie, Peachpit Press. A good book on overall web design.

Creating Web Sites: The Missing Manual, by Matthew MacDonald, Pogue Press, O’Reilly. A good treatment of general topics for beginners, includes CSS.

Web Design in a Nutshell, 3rd edition, by Jennifer Niederst Robbins, O’Reilly. Like most O’Reilly nutshell books, this is a wide ranging treatment that can be read as a training book or kept as a reference.

Dreamweaver 8: The Missing Manual, by David Sawyer McFarland, , Pogue Press, O’Reilly. Good material on general web design techniques and well as the specifics of Dreamweaver version 8.

Webmaster in a Nutshell, 3rd edition, by Stephen Spainhour and Robert Eckestein, O’Reilly. Like most O’Reilly nutshell books, this is a wide ranging treatment that can be read as a training book or kept as a reference.

Bulletproof Web Design, by Dan Cederholm, New Riders. Improving flexibility and protecting against worst-case scenarios with XHTML and CSS.
